A puppy, a kitty, a bunny, a unicorn, or a mom with her baby. The carrier gives you a hint. The bath gives you the answer.

The scruff rinses out in warm soapy water. A towel, a little warm air and the comb bring the fluff back.

We call it an FFF. Once the collar is on and the adoption certificate is signed, your Scruff is home for good.

Bath day is the whole game. Here is how a rescue goes, start to finish.

Fill a bowl with warm water and a little mild soap. Rub the matted fur until it softens and rinse until the water runs clear.

Squeeze the fur in a towel, then dry it gently. A grown-up can help with a hair dryer on a low, cool setting.

Brush with the comb until the coat stands up fluffy, then add the collar and any clips that came in the carrier.

Choose a name, fill in the adoption certificate and welcome your Fluffy Friend Furever.

5 stars for the experience alone. My daughter loved it and now her sister wants one too. She has had it a couple weeks now and still carries it everywhere with her so I say its a win for sure! I do wish it was a little softer fur but the stuffy is good quality. 👍 we did not sit there and blow dry it because that would have taken forever but we put it in the dryer and they loved watching her dry through the dryer door!
The mystery/reveal aspect made this way more exciting than a regular plush — she loved not knowing which pet she’d get until it “grew” out of the packaging. Plush quality is soft and well-made, not flimsy like some surprise toy lines can be. Good size for a kid to actually play with and carry around, not just display. The whole unboxing experience kept her entertained way longer than a standard toy would, and she’s continued playing with it well after the initial surprise wore off, which isn’t always the case with novelty toys. Great option for a birthday or just a fun surprise gift — the reveal moment alone made it worth it.
It was a little smaller than expected, but she absolutely loved it. It was nicely made, and my great granddaughter plays with it a lot. A nice toy for four year-old.
My niece loved it. I washed it with some dish soap. Put in the dryer until it was mostly dry and used the brush included to fluff it up. I’ll let it finish air drying and doing one more brush through. Overall, a cute present.
My younger daughter loves these things! I don’t understand it but it makes her happy. They’re just a stuffed animal that was made to look unrecognizable (the animal type) and you have to “love it” bathe it wash it brush it to make it recognizable and know what you got. Cute idea I guess lol but as long as she’s happy that’s all that matters. She’s 9 and has loved these for years.
My daughter liked having to wash them and see which one she got. She got the puppy and was happy. Its a cool, different toy.
A ScruffaLuvs pet is a plush animal that we send out as a matted, scruffy ball of fur. Washing it rinses the scruff away and reveals which pet it is. After drying and brushing it becomes a soft, fluffy plush to keep.
Not exactly. The carrier shows the family, such as Pet Scruffs, Unicorn Scruffs or a Mom & Baby set, and sometimes the fur colour. Which animal is inside, or how many babies, stays a surprise until the wash.
Thick fur holds a lot of water, so plan for drying time. Squeeze it well in a towel, use a hair dryer on a low setting with an adult, and let it air dry fully before bedtime cuddles.
The reveal is a one-time moment, because the scruffy coating washes out for good. The grooming, styling and pretend pet care carry on for as long as the comb survives.
If a ScruffaLuvs carrier is on a wish list and you are wondering what is actually inside, this is the short version from us, the people who pack them.
A ScruffaLuvs is a mystery plush pet that we send out looking its worst on purpose. The fur is matted into a tight, scruffy ball, so nobody can tell which animal it is. Your child rescues it with a bath, and the stuffed animal that appears is theirs to dry, brush, name and keep. It is a surprise reveal toy and a soft plush pet in one box.
Every pack holds one mystery plush (or a mom and her baby), a grooming comb, an adoption certificate and the deluxe pet carrier itself, which becomes the pet's bed afterwards. Pet Scruffs add a collar. Surprise Pets add a collar and a clip. Mom & Baby Scruffs add collars and a feeding bottle.
| Family | Who is inside | Extras in the carrier | Size when dry | From |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pet Scruffs | A puppy, a kitty, or one of three tie-dye pets | Comb, collar | About 7.5 in | $14.99 |
| Surprise Pets | A puppy, kitty or bunny, in pink or blue | Comb, collar, clip | One cuddle-size pet | $20.99 |
| Mom & Baby | A dachshund or retriever mom with one baby or twins | Comb, collars, feeding bottle | Mom 8.3 in, baby 4.3 in | $24.99 |
| Unicorn Scruffs | One of four pastel unicorns | Feather comb | About 7.5 in | $19.97 |
Single pets stand about 7.5 in (19 cm) tall once they are dry. In a family pack mom is about 8.3 in (21 cm) and each baby about 4.3 in (11 cm). Our Unicorn Scruffs listing suggests ages 6 to 8, and families in our reviews mention children from four to nine. Smaller kids can do the washing and brushing, with a grown-up at the sink and in charge of the hair dryer.
Dry the plush all the way through before it goes to bed, because thick fur holds water inside. Brush with the comb from the tips towards the body, a little at a time. If a patch still feels stiff, a second wash in warm soapy water usually clears it.
